In this process of ministry partnership you often find yourself going through the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. The taxation on the emotions is at best straining. Sometimes you can see God through the clearest lens, and then wonder where He has gone in the blink your eye. It has been like that alot for us lately, but one thing that we were reminded of today is how, much like the Israelites, we have wandered. I often see those characters in the Bible that act so foolishly before God, show so little faith, and I say to myself how could those silly little people not see the plan that God was unfolding right before them. How could they miss it?
We have learned that we are like Israel. We have been wandering....Wandering somewhere between Egypt and the promised land. Wandering in the desert. For us our desert is snowy, but a desert nonetheless. We have been blessed with this awesome opportunity to go to a foreign land and help people. Help people see more clearly who God is through doing what Jesus did. Feeding His sheep. We have the blessing of leaving our Egypt, a life of slavery. Our Egypt may not carry actual chains and ropes, but there are many things that bind us.
We feel tethers to our careers, our homes, our cars, our finances, our status, our pride. Sometimes we have found ourselves tied to that American dream that says, if we only had a bit more we would be happier. We are guilty of it so before you think this a rebuttal of a guiltless soul, don't make assumptions. For us and our family, we have the great privilege of going, of escaping our Egypt for the desert. A desert where we have felt alone. Where we have felt disconnected and without an advocate. Where we have looked over our shoulders and said to ourselves, "This is Crazy, lets go back! Back to the land that enslaved us. Back to a land where we were not at peace." Just as Israel was foolish so have we been. At the risk of making this way more involved than it needs to be God has shown up! Often times He comes in little things that we overlook or never notice, but this time He has shown up in a giant cartwheel that says, "I'm here look at me, don't look down at the water or the giants blocking your way, fix your eyes on me." Through a series of events He has grabbed our gaze in a way that I have not seen before. This doesn't happen often, but sometimes it does and so we are off. Not to the promised land, but off to a land that He has called us to. It's much like the merry-go-round, round and round it goes where it stops nobody knows! So today if you find yourself spinning, reeling, trapped, take heart.
